Conocida melodía , sencilla pero adictiva, que  ha dado lugar a numerosas versiones y arreglos diferentes.  Cantaloupe Island fue grabada para el álbum "E mpyrean Isles " de Herbie Hancock y se convirtió rápidamente en un éxito. La pieza combina elementos del jazz bebop y  jazz modal donde se dedica a reelaborar y reelaborar la misma melodía.
